In short it doesn't. Okay, but WHY? I'm sure we can all agree, it's dyed to appeal to children. Let's face it, typical dyed cotton candy really doesn't have much flavor, it's simply stale, over processed spun sugar. Therefore, the typical "pink" or "blue" cotton candy is dyed so your children have something to identify it as.

Truthfully, when we launched our dye free cotton candy, our intention was simply to create a "sophisticated cotton candy" for an adult treat. Sure we're all a little nostalgic when it comes to the memories of snagging that fresh cone of pink or blue cotton candy during the fair, but we've grown up, and we don't need pink or blue cotton candy anymore.

What has surprised us most after introducing our Candy Floss, are the number of parents who stop us at events, or at our Oklahoma City retail candy shop, and comment on how thankful they are that we offer a dye free candy option.

We're all a little more cognisant of what we're conusming today, and the reality is, more research appears nearly each day on the affects of artificial dyes in our food.

We can promise, whether our Candy Floss or any of our other handcrafted candies, you'll never find artificial dyes in our candy (full disclosure, our Birthday Cake Candy Floss has artificial dyes in the sprinkles, but they're not intertwined within the cotton candy, they're simply sprinkled on the outside for appearance, because, well, what is birthday cake without sprinkles? Sadly, we have yet to find a naturally dyed sprinkle that holds up to our candy floss' natural shelf life.). As an extension of that promise, you'll also never find cheap "filler ingredients" in our candies. We truly try to keep our candy as "clean" as possible.

What sets our Candy Floss apart from other cotton candy?

We mix our sugars in-house using unrefined, Non-GMO Project Verified pure cane sugar and natural extracts. When your cotton candy has good flavor, you simply don't need dyes.

Whether looking for a dye free candy for your kids to enjoy, or you're a nostalgic adult who loves cotton candy, we're here for you!

P.S. We also offer custom label options for our dye-free cotton candy for company events, weddings, birthday parties or corporate gifting!
----
CANDY FLOSS VS. COTTON CANDY
----
They're one in the same! Did you know, a dentist originally created cotton candy, and he called it "Candy Floss"? Our brand stands to put a contemporary spin on old fashion candies, so you'll often find our use "old" terminology for our candies, and our retail candy shop in Oklahoma City, even has an "old world" feel about it.

Most companies know their exact CAC, but most don't know their cost of retention.

Let these numbers sink in for a minute-if you could stop just 5% of your existing clients from leaving your business; you could increase your PROFITS (not revenue) by 25-100%. As the sales or business development professional who may receive commission on sales or as the Marketing Director, your role's success is often measured by NEW growth over retention (honestly blows my mind when I hear reps tell me that they receive NO commission or credit on retaining customers when retention is not only nearly direct profit but takes more skill and is vital to a company's long term viability). Customer retention funnels could certainly make your job no matter the role, more seamless and successful if you're not consistently on 'the prowl' for constant new lead generation.

There are many pieces to the puzzle when implementing a successful retention strategy (Does your company have a retention strategy? Or is the sales funnel the focus?), but the most overlooked yet most effective is: GIFTING. Why is it overlooked? Most likely the lack of budget created or how to view the budget for gifting as part of your marketing and sales department's budget. When you become willing to dig deeper on WHY gifting is the most effective retention tool, you may be more willing to create or expand a budget for the tool. Guess what, it doesn't have to break the bank either!

Take a journey with me on this thought process for a minute...

When was the last time a business or vendor sent you an email as part of their marketing strategy in effort to retain you as a customer? Did you read it? Did you even open it? We know that the open rate for auto generated emails is often below 20%.

When was the last time you received a promotional or branded item from a business intended as a gift? Did it make you feel special? Did you keep it? Branded promotional items have a place; typically at a trade show or a networking event. They're not a true 'gift'. Those items make your clients feel like you're trying to force them to promote you before they're maybe even 'bought into' your brand or relationship.

Postal mail; do you even open the gimmick envelopes that are made to look urgent or 'official business'? Do you read and take action on the post cards sent? Trash.

Now, I'm not saying that those aren't important pieces of your marketing strategy. However, they're not an effective part of your RETENTION strategy.

Still following?

Okay, think about this--
When was the last time someone gave you an UNEXPECTED gift? You know, the neighbor showed up at your door out of the blue with a plate of homemade treats? Your spouse showed up with an unexpected gift? Your best friend knew you had a rough day and showed up with flowers or whisked you away to go have fun? How did it make you feel? I'm certain, you probably immediately felt a stronger connection with that person because the gift came from a place of sincerity. Why did these emotions and feelings occur when receiving an unexpected gift? Look up dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter and hormone released when something has happened and leaves us feeling happy. This 'chemical' communicates with the front part of your brain and is associated with pleasure and reward. It helps motivate you to work toward achieving a reward. Unexpected gifts leave you with a DEEPER CONNECTION and that builds a deeper RELATIONSHIP more often than not. Utilizing emails, 'cheap' promotional items and postal mail as a retention tool is almost impossible to aid in creating a POSITIVE EMOTIONAL CONNECTION to aid in retaining your current customers.

We know that there isn't a business in 2020 that is okay with being the 'norm'. The 'norm' ultimately leaves our business complacent and can eventually kill your business.
To emotionally deepen the relationship with your existing clients; you must do the unexpected in a world of the expected. Let me say that again, YOU. MUST. DO. THE. UNEXPECTED. IN. A. WORLD. OF. THE. EXPECTED. to stand out among the crowd.
Of course gifting is just one single piece to the puzzle in your retention strategy. Additionally, the overall customer experience and culture of your company from the top down are crucial. Wait, did I just say customer EXPERIENCE or customer service?

Let me explain-
Customer SERVICE is REACTIVE. When your customer has a PROBLEM, customer service is how you handle (or don't) the problem. Yes, this is an incredibly important tool in your retention belt. However, the customer EXPERIENCE must be at the foundation of your retention strategy. It's apart of your on boarding process within the marketing strategy and sales cycle. Have you read, "Never Lose a Customer Again" by Joey Coleman? Just do it. GREAT deep dive on how to truly create an unforgettable experience for long term customer buy-in with your company.

The customer experience is the EMOTIONAL tool (hello dopamine) to create LOYAL clients who don't just keep their business with you but they become advocates for you.
Are you doing anything right now to maximize points of emotion with your clients? Here we go again...do the unexpected in a world of the expected. The most overlooked tool?

Again, GIFTING.

Let me elaborate some do's and don'ts of gifting...

DO send a quality, unique gift to make them feel special.

DON'T use your branded trinkets & merch as a gift; those aren't gifts--they're promotional material. They're expected.

DO send a gift at 'random' times through the year to stand out among their other vendors

DON'T send a gift at the expected time of the year (ahem, winter holidays). Wait, I better elaborate on exceptions to this rule...

Exception to the holiday gift rule: If you have a client of whom your net profit is say, over... $10K/year...at this point, it is pretty important you should stay top of mind at the holidays with them IN ADDITION to an unexpected time of the year.

Let me elaborate a little further on why not to gift during the expected winter holidays. The purpose of gifting is to release the maximum amount of dopamine with your client to build a deeper relationship with them, right? When gifts are sent at expected times of the year, when other gifts are coming in their door, the experience won't be heightened to the point of the dopamine being released to be a direct reflection of YOU. Worst of all, your gift is piled in their office with many other gifts and may end up in the hands of someone who isn't a decision maker at that company.

Lets take "Surprise & Delight" to another level when gifting during the unexpected time. You've just created a memorable, emotional experience for your client. Yet, the enclosure card appears to be mass produced or typed on a packing list. YIKES! There went the dopamine. The purpose of the gift is to make them feel SPECIAL. There is NOTHING special about the insincerity of something that is mass produced. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. If not by you, by the gifting company, include a PERSONAL, HANDWRITTEN card!

Okay, so the gift is sent. Dopamine released. They now look at you and your company in a whole other light. The curtains of clutter and competition have parted. THEY'RE. NOW. YOURS. They're now advocating for you by one of the most priceless and least expensive forms of marketing... WORD OF MOUTH. Once gifting becomes a part of your on-boarding and retention process, you'll start to notice that because of a shift in retention vs the cost of new lead generation, you'll be able to rearrange your marketing budget to better facilitate your company's profits by 25-100% on average. "How much should I spend on a gift?" Well, we can't really answer that for you because on you and your company know your approximate net profit or the value of retaining that client for long term success. However, we did ask a few of our corporate gifting clients on your behalf prior to writing this article. Some shared that based on their industries regulations, they set a budget. Others shared that they budgeted anywhere from 2-10% of their NET PROFIT per sale on their gifting strategy. Many spread the gifts out through the year if they're a service or product based company who has a large invoice total per client (over $10K) and others utilize gifting with a small-medium budget in an expected time of year just once a year. Overall, you have to decide what is best for your company. Gifting something of quality and meaning with a handwritten note is better than nothing at all as a starting point in your strategy. Like most things in life, quality over quantity when gifting.

Your gifting program should be seamless and simple for you and your company. Select a product or company of whom you can build a relationship with so they know your style, preferences and will work with what is best for YOUR company while putting your brand forward with the recipient.

  Corporate Gifting Service

Relationships Before Opportunity

https://www.mollycoddledhashslinger.net/blog-small-business-gourmet-candy-made-in-oklahoma-products/relationships-before-opportunity

https://www.mollycoddledhashslinger.net/blog-small-business-gourmet-candy-made-in-oklahoma-products/relationships-before-opportunity#comments

Uncategorized

People want to do business with people they enjoy working with and being around By: Tina Evans You’ve probably heard the familiar saying, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”I believe this speaks to the idea that our emotional intelligence is just as important as our work intelligence. People want to know you care about them and that you can have a relationship without a transaction associated with it.

Emotional Intelligence = our awareness of others and our impact on them.

In our digital world where everyone has access to the same information, specialized skills and knowledge have become less exclusive. Therefore, our greatest asset lies in our ability to connect with people to form lasting, positive relationships.

Certain personalities dislike small talk and just want to jump right into business. That type of interaction might be perfectly fine and normal for you, but if you do that, you will usually miss out on truly understanding their pain and needs. That could make your offering or attempts at deeper influence feel shallow and possibly completely miss the mark.

Intentionally building influence is about understanding how you impact others and what it’s like to be on the other side of you. If you’re trying to establish or grow a relationship with a customer or coworker who is put off by a direct, all-about-business approach, you could lose credibility quickly and the opportunity to work with them.

The key to having a true relational impact with coworkers, clients, and customers is to be more “for them” than “for yourself.” That means you talk less and listen more. Ask them questions and be interested – not interesting. It can start as simply as, "How's your family? How's your team? What did you do this weekend? What's going on in your business?" By doing that you're putting them first.

The result of you putting the relationship ahead of yourself is you have become significant, memorable, and impactful in their life. The great thing is, once you become valuable to someone, they often want you to continue to help them. It creates a natural opportunity.

Put others first, be interested, discover their pain, work to help them find a solution, and then watch as your opportunities explode.

Bio
Tina Evans Coaching provides leadership development coaching, consulting, and training services with a strong emphasis on improving leaders and team behavior, communication, and increasing performance.

Your CFO just became your bestie...ha!

Here are a few facts and statistics on retention...
In the banking industry alone; one of the most competitive industries, 36% of their customers leave before their one year anniversary as a customer due to lack of exceptional customer experience. But, 16% of that 36% left before their 100 day anniversary. What if 5% of them could have been retained?

Across all industries, 20-70% of new customers will decide to leave your business before their 100th day as a customer. THAT alone is the biggest threat to a business.

Existing customers are nine times more likely to complete a new purchase over a potential new customer.

The top 10% of loyal customers spend THREE TIMES more per order than the lower NINETY PERCENT of customers. The most impactful tool is gifting because of the effect of dopamine and relationship building.

Here are some quick ideas of when to "Surprise & Delight" through gifting...

An achievement, recognition or career promotion point for your client. Watch your client's social media pages and publications for these key points.

Within their first 30 days of doing business with you--keep them from leaving before day 100 by making them feel special and bonded to you and then keep building that relationship.

Literally JUST BECAUSE. Random yet, planned times of the year or apart of your retention funnel that aren't tied to a holiday.

Their birthday or anniversary

VIP outreach

We should probably talk gifting budget because that's the question we get most from our clients.

Galasso Learning Solutions sends each new client an on-boarding thank you gift. Achieving perfection is one step closer when you add usefulness and customer satisfaction to the mix.

What kind of advertising could evoke such feelings in a consumer?
Two words describe the solution: corporate gifting.
Corporate gifts are among the best ways to advertise and promote your business. In a BPMA survey, 56% of respondents said their perception of the company dramatically improved after receiving a corporate gift. 79% said they would most likely do business with that company again.

Brand awareness is not the only advantage of giving; it can also improve a receiver's daily life and establish a relationship with him or her. What is the most effective way to promote your business with corporate gifts? Here are some tips to maximize your corporate gifts.

Your gifts can be organized by budget tiers
Since the value of your company varies between customers, one gift should not be the same for everyone.

Establish your promotional goals
Your target audience will determine the promotional value of corporate gifts.
Why do corporations give gifts? Would you like to strengthen your relationship with existing customers, attract new leads, or both? When you want to improve your relationship with your loyal customers, look for items that show your appreciation

Prepare a budget in advance
You should view promotional items as an investment, rather than an expense.
As a result, corporate gifts shouldn't be viewed as a once-off event. Instead, set aside a budget for promotional gifts and distribute them frequently. It's not just for holidays.
Keep your company at the forefront of your customers' minds by giving them gifts regularly. A budget also ensures that you do not overspend on corporate gifts, which may negatively affect your bottom line.

A Final Thought
Promoting your business with corporate gifts is crucial.

JRP Media Management LLC is owned and operated by Jackie Padgett. It's a "high" that I personally thrive off of and the detailed organization it takes to make all the moving parts work that time of the year (seriously, my God-given talent) is really something that feeds my soul.

In the five years past of operating our company out of a "ghost kitchen" (this is a "new" industry term but not new to us as we reverse engineered our growth), Q1 of the new year would roll around and be no big deal. Operating out of a ghost kitchen allowed us to grow with very low overhead and although we'd have seasonal "spikes", the demand for our products were fairly even through the year.

Q4 of 2021 brought us a lot of "new busy" with our flagship retail store which naturally leads us to Q1 of 2022. A little transparency--I miss the "high" of Q4 with the added busy of a new retail store. Frankly, I think our team does too. Right now, we're finding our new groove in slightly slower pace at the shop and moving into our first Valentine's Day with a retail store not knowing what to expect. You see, Valentine's Day is typically an "impulse buy" holiday that we've not really been able to capitalize on in the past since we didn't have a retail store.

Side note: Have you been by to see us yet this year?! We have some DARLING Valentine's merchandise.

This January retail "lull" is something I was used to while in college (and a few years after graduating) when in retail management, so you'd think I'd be used to it. Like riding a bike, right (we won't talk about how many years ago that may have been, okay??)? HA! Seriously though, I HATE the January "lull"! We know as years go on and we continue to grow, the lull will slightly disipate but for now it sort of sucks.

Although we're in a "lull" right now, I can promise you we're not twiddling our thumbs. We've been working on a little R&D (research and development) for new products (ummm....hello Candy Floss Glitter Bombs!), adding pop-up events to our spring calendar, setting yearly business goals, display resets, deep cleaning and other 'fun' things. In the grand sceme of things, there will always be a "lull" at the start of the new year for retail and Q4 will always be our height with the industry we're in.

Here we are closing out January and preparing for all that spring has to offer retail businesses. Long story short, now that the fall/winter holidays are over, don't forget us! Come see us (yes, seeing us on our website counts as visiting us too) because we miss you!

Think of us when you...
...need a gift
...are hosting a special event
...need to say "thank you"
...have client gifting needs
...special occasions arise
...deserve to treat yourself

See you SOON!
-Melissa

Bourbon Pecan Toffee Maple Syrup Recipe for Chicken and Waffles

https://www.mollycoddledhashslinger.net/blog-small-business-gourmet-candy-made-in-oklahoma-products/bourbon-pecan-toffee-maple-syrup-recipe-for-chicken-and-waffles

https://www.mollycoddledhashslinger.net/blog-small-business-gourmet-candy-made-in-oklahoma-products/bourbon-pecan-toffee-maple-syrup-recipe-for-chicken-and-waffles#comments

Uncategorized

You know those moments you stare into the fridge and try to figure out what's for dinner? The pan of the last eight Raisin' Cane's chicken fingers from our Super Bowl family meal stared back at me! Yes, I ordered waaaayyyyy too many chicken fingers and we brought about 20 home from my mother-in-law's and I really hated to waste the last eight. THEN, it HIT me like a TON OF BRICKS! Chicken and waffle night! Oh crap! Not enough syrup...how can I stretch the syrup we had left?! DING DING DING!!! Winner winner CHICKEN DINNER! I forgot I brought home a mound of Bourbon Pecan Toffee 'crumbles' left from packaging last week's toffee for Valentine's Day orders! I quickly created this recipe and it is SO GOOD! Here's the thing... I am giving you permission to cheat and buy chicken fingers, tenders or strips...whatever your fave restaurant calls them... go ahead and cheat! My rule is... every meal is 'homemade' if it is MADE IN THE HOME! The entire meal does not have to be from scratch!

XOXO,
Melissa

P.S. In our house we prefer the good 'ol Bisquick Waffle recipe... easy peasy!

<div style="height: 20px; So, this is me writing the recipe down. Side note, the cookies have a very faint pumpkin flavor but the brown sugar and toffee flavors hit the roof with the pumpkin added! Careful not to burn and turn heat down to medium if needed to prevent burning.

No sulfites to to enhance the color, no preservatives, no added sugar...NOTHING extra! The ONLY ingredient in their dried fruit is the fruit itself! (Note: This is also the reason that the glaze in the recipe below is almost brown rather than pink or red...so thankful for no added dyes!)

When I opened the box of fruit last night I knew I had to bake with the cherries today! Preheat oven to 400*F. Whisk first four ingredients (leave the additional 2 tbsp flour to the side for step 3) together in a large stainless or glass bowl. With a coarse cheese grater, grate the butter over the flour mixture and lightly mix with your fingers. Place bowl in fridge while working on the next step.

2. Whisk together the cream, egg and almond extract in a medium bowl. Set aside.

3. Place cherries in a bowl and toss with 2 tbsp sugar. This will prevent the cherries from sticking to each other.

4. Remove flour mixture from the fridge and mix the cream mixture and cherries into the flour and mix with a sturdy wooden spoon until a dough ball has formed.

5. On a lightly floured surface, pat the dough ball out in a flattened 8" circle. Using a bench scraper or knife, cut the dough into 8 wedges.

6. Using parchment paper or a silicone mat on a heavy baking sheet, evenly space the scone wedges about 2" apart. Lightly brush with remaining heavy cream. Bake for 16-24 minutes, until golden brown. Depending on your oven, you may need to rotate the baking sheet half way through baking.

7. While the scones are in the oven-- place 1/4 cup dried cherries with remaining cream and almond extract in a food processor. Process until cherries are fine and lump free. Then whisk the cherry mixture in a small bowl with the powdered sugar until lump free. If the glaze is too runny or thick you'll need to either add a little more cream or powdered sugar (the humidity in your home can play a part in this).

8. Once the scones are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the scones with a piping bag or a freezer bag with the tip cut off.

Enjoy!
