Written by: Melissa WedmanHead Sugar Slinger, CEO of Mollycoddled Hash Slinger Why does cotton candy (or as we call it, Candy Floss; more on that later) need to be dyed? In short it doesn't. Okay, but WHY? I'm sure we can all agree, it's dyed to appeal to children. Let's face it, typical dyed cotton candy really doesn't have much flavor, it's simply stale, over processed spun sugar. Therefore, the typical "pink" or "blue" cotton candy is dyed so your children have something to identify it as. Truthfully, when we launched our dye free cotton candy, our intention was simply to create a "sophisticated cotton candy" for an adult treat. Sure we're all a little nostalgic when it comes to the memories of snagging that fresh cone of pink or blue cotton candy during the fair, but we've grown up, and we don't need pink or blue cotton candy anymore. What has surprised us most after introducing our Candy Floss, are the number of parents who stop us at events, or at our Oklahoma City retail candy shop, and comment on how thankful they are that we offer a dye free candy option. We're all a little more cognisant of what we're conusming today, and the reality is, more research appears nearly each day on the affects of artificial dyes in our food. We can promise, whether our Candy Floss or any of our other handcrafted candies, you'll never find artificial dyes in our candy (full disclosure, our Birthday Cake Candy Floss has artificial dyes in the sprinkles, but they're not intertwined within the cotton candy, they're simply sprinkled on the outside for appearance, because, well, what is birthday cake without sprinkles? Sadly, we have yet to find a naturally dyed sprinkle that holds up to our candy floss' natural shelf life.). As an extension of that promise, you'll also never find cheap "filler ingredients" in our candies. We truly try to keep our candy as "clean" as possible. What sets our Candy Floss apart from other cotton candy? We mix our sugars in-house using unrefined, Non-GMO Project Verified pure cane sugar and natural extracts. When your cotton candy has good flavor, you simply don't need dyes. Whether looking for a dye free candy for your kids to enjoy, or you're a nostalgic adult who loves cotton candy, we're here for you! P.S. We also offer custom label options for our dye-free cotton candy for company events, weddings, birthday parties or corporate gifting! ---- CANDY FLOSS VS. COTTON CANDY ---- They're one in the same! Did you know, a dentist originally created cotton candy, and he called it "Candy Floss"? Our brand stands to put a contemporary spin on old fashion candies, so you'll often find our use "old" terminology for our candies, and our retail candy shop in Oklahoma City, even has an "old world" feel about it.
